Next year, European countries will adopt the EES (Entry-Exit System) system to control the entry of foreigners. The provision is at Regulation (EU) 2017/2226.

As is currently done in the United States, in addition to the passport data, the system will collect biometric data (fingerprints and facial images) and store it for future needs.

The system will also automatically log someone’s entry and exit into and out of the country, enabling faster responses in overstay cases.
